about

Corinne Prainito is qualified as an Exercise Scientist and registered Naturopath (with the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS). Corinne earned her Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Health Science) at the University of Western Australia (UWA) through the School of Human Movement and Exercise Science (HMES) — a school recognised nationally and internationally for its high standard of research. Corinne's second qualification — an Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy — was completed at Health Schools Australia (HSA).

Corinne's passion for all things health-related began at the age of fourteen. Still at school, she started working part-time in the health industry and used the money she saved to buy and read countless books on weight loss, diet, exercise, and natural health. After school, Corinne continued to work in health-related industries, continued to read "new-release" health literature, and started studying for her Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy. The following year, she began her degree at UWA feeling she needed to ground her concurrent studies in alternative health with more orthodox training.

It was at UWA that Corinne's gestalt understanding of health came together. She learned to seperate fact from fiction and was blessed with information — confirmed by research — on topics often plagued with confusing and contradictory messages. Topics like weight loss, fat burning, cardio, muscle building, diets, healthy nutrition, sports nutrition, and more. Wanting to tell the world about the wonderful strides being made in health science studies, Corinne chose Science Communications electives to convert the science-speak of research findings to plain english.

After completing her studies, Corinne communicated her health messages as a personal trainer, naturopath and fat loss consultant — making a difference one beautiful person at a time. When she wasn't working, she was scouring the internet for quality health information and found herself feeling uneasy about the extent of misinformation made available to the public. This lead to the creation of bebeautifulfatloss.com, an aesthetically pleasing collaboration of sensible information that addresses the nutritional, physiological, and psychological aspects of fat loss. In the process she found her calling as a freelance health writer, online content writer, online personal trainer and web designer/developer.

By combining a love of reading, researching, editing, writing, and the world wide web, Corinne truly is a happy traveller. You may even catch a glimpse of her wicked sense of humour as she starts to write more articles. Below is a detailed outline of Corinne's personal approach to attaining or maintaining good health.

From Corinne:
Helping people achieve great health — so they feel radiant, relate well interpersonally and live fully — is my passion. That's why I build websites, write health articles, impart a bit of professional advice, and/or refer readers to physicians or therapists who may be able to help. I also recommend approaching a healthy lifestyle with a light heart and a good sense of humour; no amount of good behaviour will create a healthy body and mind if you're worried sick over every little thing you eat, drink or do.

As for health professionals, authenticity is paramount. A reader/client displays great courage and faith when they decide to follow a health provider's advice and it's important to the healing process not to breach that trust. I practice what I preach. My health philosophy is one that I can live by and is summed up by three words — movement, pleasure, and purpose.

Towards health
Attaining and maintaining optimal health is a dynamic process facilitated by evidence-based strategies that promote healthy thinking, emotions, and actions.

Towards healthy individuals
Health-promoting and solution-focused strategies need to be tailored to suit a person’s readiness for change, likes and dislikes, needs and wants, problems and opportunities.

Towards a healthy community
Sound, unbiased health education fosters a healthy community. This is facilitated by writing and disseminating - via mixed media - press releases and articles that translate the scientific language of current evidence-based findings into health-promoting concepts that are easy to understand and apply to everyday living.

For health
Increasing physical activity and reducing inactivity is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle and being beautiful. Movement – such as structured exercise at home or in the gym, organized sport, walking, yoga, or dancing in the living room - enhances quality of life through physiological, emotional, and psychological benefits. Compliance is improved by providing physical activity programs and/or personal training sessions that are flexible and tailored to suit each individual’s unique situation in terms of resources, lifestyle, needs and wants.

Pleasure… is a safer guide than either right or duty.
— Samuel Butler

The notion that pleasure serves as an innate guide to good health is supported by scientific studies. Pleasure not only provides the enthusiasm and energy necessary to adhere to a health plan; it also boosts the immune system, strengthens the heart, helps ward off depression and anxiety, has a positive effect on the ageing process and provides many more benefits to physical and mental health.

As a guide to healthy living, pleasure does not imply a “one size fits all” approach to life. Healthy, pleasure-creating people don’t follow fads, formulas or other people’s prescriptions for living. They are immune to the confusing barrage of health information that is, in its self, detrimental to wellbeing.

Readers/Clients are encouraged to engage the senses to create their own rich, rewarding, healthy lifestyles emphasizing the “dos” as opposed to “don’ts”. Ineffective coping mechanisms — such as smoking, over-eating, excessive drinking or drug use — are replaced with true pleasures. For maximum benefit the client’s perception of their health plan, is as important as what the health plan entails.

Purpose facilitates healthy change by creating a destination and the necessary resilience to face life’s inevitable challenges. Clients are encouraged to make lasting changes by creating:

a purpose that incorporates a positive focus, is intrinsically motivated, and has a sense of coherence extending beyond one's self;

personally meaningful and compelling values to fuel the energy on which their purpose is constructed;

a goal/mission statement, grounded in these values, to establish a blueprint for how to invest their energy; and,

positive rituals that translate values into action in an automated way — reducing reliance on the limited resources of conscious will and discipline.
